born from music
Founded by Sergio Fahrer in 1992, Fahrer is a Brazilian furniture design studio whose work is rooted in observation, research, and experimentation. Today, the studio brings together its founder and fellow partners and designers Jack Fahrer and Heloísa Samaia. Their distinct backgrounds and perspectives fuel an ongoing exploration of materials, structure, ergonomics, and space. The bentwood multilamination technique developed and patented by Sergio marked a defining moment in the studio’s trajectory, opening up new possibilities for construction and form. Over time, this research expanded to encompass other materials and technologies, combining industrial processes with traditional craftsmanship. With an award-winning body of work in residential furniture, Fahrer creates pieces that bring together comfort, identity, and different ways of inhabiting space. This expertise also underpins the studio’s extensive work on projects for hotels, restaurants, and corporate environments, where its command of materials and production processes enables tailored responses to specific requirements of use, scale, and durability. Across both indoor and outdoor settings, each design considers not only the experience of those who use it, but also its relationship with the surrounding architecture. Fahrer’s work has received numerous national and international distinctions, including the iF Design Award, a Platinum A’ Design Award, the Gold Award at Prêmio Objeto Brasil, and the SIT Furniture Design Award. Featured in exhibitions, fairs, and publications in Brazil and abroad, Fahrer places authorship, technical expertise, Brazilian production, and the human relationships behind each project at the heart of its practice.
blues chair
Sergio Fahrer creates the Blues chair, drawing on his experience in musical instrument making. The piece marks the beginning of Fahrer’s journey and its exploration of bentwood, structure, and ergonomics.
in 1993 the Blues chair receives the Woodcraft Design Award, marking the first international recognition in Fahrer’s journey. In 2006, the Cariaí armchair was named “Top One” by British magazine IdFX.
Jack Fahrer: new perspectives
Jack joins the studio, bringing his experience in fashion, music, and object design to the development of furniture.
Brazilian design in New York
Sergio and Jack take part in the talk “Brazil: A New Perspective” during ICFF, joining a discussion on the presence and growing recognition of Brazilian design abroad.
In 2016, the Tamanduá stool receives the Gold Award at Objeto Brasil. In 2018, Fahrer receives the iF Design Award, adding another distinction to its international trajectory. In 2022 the DC3 stool receives the Platinum distinction in the Furniture Design category.

Created from hydraulic pipes and fittings, the Conexão 03 speaker, Conexão 08 dining table, and Conexão 10 armchair receive honorable mentions at the IDA — International Design Awards and are awarded at the SIT Furniture Design Award.
